Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome. You are looking at a somewhat rare and museum quality Turner 98 model dynamic cardioid microphone in the rarer satin chrome finish from the 1950’s that rarely comes around even on Ebay or reverb and it comes with the equally beautiful period Turner C-3 desk stand shown. Turner offered this model of mic in either satin Chrome or a painted version. Pic # 2 shows this very model in an old Turner catalog I have along with it’s basic characteristics and price. This deco styled piece was ultra modern for it’s time with satin chrome finish and unique metal grill makes this one of the more interesting microphones ever produced by Turner or any mic manufacturer for that matter. A radical and unique look that was only sold for a few short years. As you can see in the pics provided this mic tilts backwards up to 90 degrees if needed. The original dynamic cardioid element in this piece has been tested but no longer works. It’s still present however. The 98 model was one of Turners shining stars and I have heard good working examples. The sound quality for this model was superb and could compete with any modern dynamic cardioid mic of even today. It was a high quality dynamic cardioid element and was one of the more costly mics of it’s time which is probably why so few of these were sold. The 98 was excellent for general broadcasting purposes and even singing. Again, this mic no longer works and should be used for display, prop or repair purposes only. Still a magnificent example worthy of any mic collection. The finish shows zero wear and the nicest I have ever seen over the years. There are no fractures, dents or corrosion on this piece. Very nice considering it’s age. I would rate this mic an easy 9 + physically speaking on a scale of 1 – 10. No dings or tarnish on the mic screen either. The Turner insignia and rear badge both look incredible. The threading for both the stand and cable are perfect. Mic takes an older Amphenol type 2 pin cable which is not included. I do have these for sale if needed. The joint mechanism holds firm as well and is adjustable. MICROPHONE STAND SHOWN IS PART OF THIS SALE… The stand is an equally gorgeous 1950’s era Turner C-3 model microphone desk stand. This is an all aluminum stand with a satin chrome finish and satin chrome stem / riser. This model was widely produced by Turner during the 1950’s but discontinued after about a decade so you don’t see many around. The stand thread itself is universal and any mic will technically mate to the top of it. This particular E.V stand has extremely lite wear as you can see. Very lite scuffs and pitting. Zero scratches or dents. The satin chrome stem is excellent. Please let the detailed pictures be your guide. The original rubber pad is included and will keep the stand from scratching any surface it sits on. Mic with stand is appx 12 inches tall X 5 inches wide. The short stance of this stand makes it extremely stable and can be used on small, medium and larger mics. These stands are becoming harder to find every year and there is quite a demand for them. It compliments any microphone that sits atop of it for sure. The look of this Turner 98 will look great anywhere it sits in the home, office or studio. An instant conversation piece. And as with all my items… I can promise you will be happy with it for the price paid. If not…I have a no hassle return policy.
