Range of 1.1 25″ to 2.69″ (28.58 – 68.3mm). Easy on bearings. The expander has a neoprene sleeve over which the split driving plugs are mounted & expanded to size. This tool has two sets of rubber sleeves supplied w/ it for each expanding driver. Common types include:Aluminum Alloy BearingsBabbitt BearingsAluminum alloy bearings are harder and do not wear in as easily as Babbitt bearings, so it is essential to ensure sufficient clearance between the bearings and the camshaft. How to Install Bearings into the Engine BlockFollow the Order: Start installing the bearings from the rear of the engine block and proceed towards the front.Avoid Damage: Be careful during installation to avoid removing material from the outer diameter of the bearing, which could lead to excess material buildup at the mating surface between the bearing and the block, reducing oil clearance. When to Select BearingsChoose bearings after performing all necessary machining processes, such as cylinder honing, alignment grinding, cylinder head reconditioning, and cam hole alignment. Ensure the engine block is completely clean before beginning. Tools for Installing and Removing Camshaft BearingsUsing the right tools makes the job easier. For press-fit camshaft bearings, use a camshaft bearing installer, also known as a bearing driver. This tool allows you to easily tap the bearings in or out with a hammer.Universal camshaft bearing installation tools are suitable for almost all automotive engines, from small cars to heavy trucks, simplifying bearing replacement. The expanding sleeve grips tightly and is friendly to new bearings. Expanders and split drive plates come with replaceable rubber sleeves. Determine the Inner Diameter of the BearingsSelect the Correct Expanding Driver: Choose the right expanding driver according to the list provided.Align the Segments: Place the expanding driver on the expander component, ensuring that each drivers segment aligns with the separator line of the expander component.Lubricate the Smooth Surface: Lubricate the smooth surface of the rubber sleeve to aid in placing the driver onto the expander.Next, place the nylon center cone on the drive shaft. Then screw the expander component and driver washer down onto the shaft from above. The toolkit includes an extended driving rod, which may be needed when removing bearings afterward.Insert Expander Component: Place the expander component into the front of the engine block and secure it to the first bearing to be removed, typically starting from the front of the block. Ensure to tighten it appropriately on the bearing.Center the Cone: Center the conical body in the first bearing cavity and drive the bearing out. Release the pressure by loosening the expander driver component, then pull back through the next bearing. Repeat this process until all bearings have been removed. Note: Some engine blocks have closed cam slots that can only be accessed from both ends. In these cases, use sockets and extension rods to expand and reduce the expander component while removing or installing each bearing. Steps to Install New BearingsBefore installing new bearings, reduce the expander component size. Ensure the separator line is aligned just as indicated in the bearing removal section.Insert the Tool: Insert the tool from the front of the engine block through the camshaft bearing hole until it reaches the front of the rear bearing cavity.Place the New Bearing: Position the new bearing on the expanding driver and tighten it until secure.Drive the Bearing into Place: After the nylon center cone is positioned in the first bearing cavity, drive the bearing into place. Repeat this step until all bearings are fully driven in, but do not install the first bearing yet.Drive in the First Bearing: To drive in the first bearing, move to the rear of the engine.
